A knee accident in my early 20’s while skiing decided to make a comeback when I entered my 40’s. It was severely curtailing my swimming, walking and overall flexibility, which was very depressing to me. Thus, with encouragement from my husband, who is a regular at Body Fit Health Club, I started going 3 times a week and found I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I was surprised at the increased flexibility it gave me.

One of the lessons I learned in those 8 years was the the importance of a qualified trainer’s advice. I try to follow my program, but whenever I fall behind or have muscle difficulties, my trainer is always there to help.

Dale has helped me through returning from knee surgery, and even more recently a pulled muscle in my back. His knowledge and expertise got me back onto my program and I am now biking, swimming, and some walking on a weekly basis. I have gained muscle in my upper arms, thighs, and calves which in turn help support my weakened knee. Both Dale and Hollay are very positive and caring trainers that I have dealt with, and it is so  nice when they pass you by in the gym and give you a “How’s it going?” comment.

What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting started in an exercise program?  My advice when starting at a gym is to check in with a certified trainer that cares and has education and expertise behind them.  Do not try to conquer the mountain in the first week. Try to make it fun by changing it up

Shortly after getting married, my wife and I tried to start our family. After a year past, and we were unsuccessful, we decided to approach our doctor for some guidance. She referred us to a fertility specialist, who performed tests on the both of us. The test came back and everything was perfect; there should be no reason why we’re not pregnant. So we tried for another year and nothing. Both of us were becoming extremely frustrated as we both were not getting any younger. During this time, it was mentioned to me that maybe being overweight had something to do with it. I joined Body Fit Health Club April 18th, 2011

When I joined the gym, I weighed 298lbs, my waist was 56 inches, and my neck was 19 inches. Two months later, I had lost 15lbs and we found out that my wife was pregnant. Since then, I haven’t looked back. It is currently June 7, 2012 and my daughter is 4 months old. To date, I have lost 83lbs, weighing in at 215lbs. My waist is now 40 inches, my neck is 16 inches, and I am only 20lbs away from my target of 195lbs.

Jay Barrett – just under 14months later. Has lost 83lbs, 16 inches from around his waist, and another 3 from his neck. Way to go Jay! We are ALL so very proud of you! Keep it up!

What advice would you give someone thinking of getting started in an exercise program?  Starting at the gym can be intimidating. Take your time and pace yourself. Results don’t happen overnight. Have realistic goals and don’t be afraid to sweat a little. Utilize the Body Fit Staff as they are very knowledgeable. Overall, the one thing I like the most about the gym is the staff and members who are so supportive and want to see you achieve your goals.

Dear Andy and staff,

I just wanted to let you know that on Sunday July 29, 2012, I participated in my FIRST Triathlon in Orillia, Ontario. It was part of the Subaru TriSeries.  It was definitely a goal for me to complete (Things to do Before I Hit 50), and I trained very hard for it.

My intent was simply just to finish, but I was pleasantly surprised to have placed 3rd in my age group (45+)!!  That was indeed an added bonus!

After the event, a reporter asked to interview me for a local Rogers Channel, and I gave a “shout out” to BodyFit Health Club.  It is certainly a great place to train and the staff and members become almost like a second family. It’s a comfortable environment to be in which is important – as we all know for some people, getting in the door in the first place is the hardest step!  But once they see how easy it is and how helpful everyone is at BodyFit, it makes it even better!

So thanks again for making my training centre such a great environment!

In fact I have just registered for my 2nd Triathlon (the Niagara Triathlon) on August 12, 2012 in Grimsby, Ontario!

WAY TO GO CAROLE ANNE!  What a great success story! All of us here at BodyFit are so proud of your accomplishments and success. All the best in Grimsby – and please keep us in the loop with your achievements during that race as well!  We love to hear about our members, and how their time in our facility has helped them outside our health club walls.    If only we could get our hands on a copy of the TV interview!!!    Good luck Carole Anne!
